Keep your bones stronger, longer with DEXA + TBS

Your bones are the foundation of your independence—protect them from fractures and maintain your active lifestyle.

Measure bone density and quality for a more complete picture of your fracture risk

DEXA + TBS = Quantity + Quality

Standard DEXA scans measure bone density (quantity) but not bone structure (quality).

Adding Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) provides a more complete view of bone strength—helping your provider detect hidden weakness, identify risk earlier, and guide personalized prevention and treatment.

  • Enables early detection of osteoporosis
  • More accurate fracture risk assessment
  • Guides personalized treatment
  • Prevent fractures, preserve freedom

How DEXA + TBS works

Starting around age 40, bone health naturally declines, increasing the risk of fractures—even during simple daily tasks. While standard DEXA scans show how much bone you have, they can miss how strong it is. Adding TBS analysis gives a deeper understanding of bone quality, helping evaluate bone strength and fracture risk and guide personalized care for lifelong bone health.

  • Bone quantity + bone quality
  • Fast and painless
  • Comprehensive results

Adding TBS to a standard DEXA scan gives us a deeper view of bone health. It helps reveal structural weakness that bone density alone cannot detect, allowing us to characterize risk earlier and guide more personalized prevention and treatment for every patient.

I took my paperwork in filled in before my appointment. There was no wait with a room full of people with their appointments. I was treated extremely well for my lung CT. This is a good place to have CT’s done with the equipment used.

Extremely busy office. Very efficient on moving patients in and out. I had 2 tests bone density, and lung scan the technicians were very speedy.

Great service by Mark doing my CT Scan of upper torso and lungs! Thank you so much!

I went in for an Ultrasound to see if I had a blood clot in my leg. By the time I got the results it was 5:00 PM. They could not get a hold of my Dr. and advised me to go to the ER. While in ER they did a CT scan and found I had a Pulmonary Embolism in my lungs. They told me I had a saddle clot (the worst kind) and that I am lucky my lung didn’t collapse and I didn’t have a stroke or a heart attack! I truly believe your techs saved my life by advising me to go to the ER! Thank you!

The Greenfield office in Gilbert was very nice. The appointments were scheduled back to back over the phone by rep. The check-in was easy because I finished it at home online before I went in. Front desk staff were smiling and friendly. The techs were amazing and very professional. Had mammogram, lung CT and Dexa bone density tests all done in less than 60 minutes. Great job SimonMed!

I arrived at SimonMed on time for my appointment. Since this was a follow up scan (for lung cancer), and no changes had occurred to my status, I was swiftly processed. I received my scan and was out of the office in about twenty minutes. I highly recommend SimonMed for any imaging that you may require!

Front desk and xray techs so helpful and nice. X-ray techs found something on my heart, and it was a lung scan, that was really awesome of them. Thanks!

New Year, first scan of the year. Appt was easy to make. A quick update of paperwork and 5 mins later I was headed for my CT lung scan. 15 mins later, all set and headed home. Easy peazy.

Traditional DEXA scans measure Bone Mineral Density (BMD) to assess osteoporosis risk, but BMD alone doesn’t reveal bone quality. TBS, combined with DEXA, uses AI to analyze bone structure, identifying weaknesses that BMD can’t see, thus providing a more comprehensive view of bone health without extra scan time or radiation.

During a DEXA scan with TBS, you’ll lie comfortably on a scanning table as the equipment measures both your bone density and analyzes your bone structure. This quick, painless, non-invasive procedure typically takes about 15 minutes and requires no additional radiation exposure beyond standard DEXA.

Medicare typically covers DEXA scans every two years for women over 65 and men over 70. However, medical experts recommend that screenings can begin earlier (starting around age 50) for anyone with conditions or lifestyles that increase osteoporosis risk, including:

  • Family history of osteoporosis
  • Postmenopausal women under 65
  • History of fractures from minor incidents
  • Use of medications linked to bone loss (like long-term glucocorticoid therapy or certain cancer therapies)
  • Conditions such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or autoimmune diseases
  • Lifestyle factors like smoking, excessive alcohol use, or low body weight

Yes, but it’s minimal, much less than a standard X-ray. DEXA + TBS is non-invasive and FDA-approved.

Your healthcare provider typically receives the detailed results within 1-3 business days.

Most patients are screened every 1-2 years based on individual health and risk factors.

Yes, you will need a doctor’s order for a DEXA + TBS scan, even if you plan to pay out of pocket. We recommend downloading our informational guide (Open Link in new window) and sharing it with your doctor to request an order.
