What is a CT scan?

A CT scan (Computed Tomography) is an advanced imaging that uses rotating X-rays to create detailed 3D images of the body’s internal structures. It helps doctors see the brain, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, joints and blood vessels with exceptional clarity—often in just seconds.

Advanced technology, lower dose

SimonMed Imaging uses the latest generation of CT scanners with AI-enhanced software and low-dose hardware to capture sharper images with significantly less radiation—up to 50–80% lower than traditional CT systems.

For example, a modern chest CT scan at SimonMed now delivers a radiation dose comparable to a standard digital chest X-ray, and both take just seconds. We continually invest in technology that puts patient safety and image quality first.

What happens during a CT scan

During your scan, you’ll lie comfortably on a padded table that moves through a circular scanner. The machine quietly rotates around you, taking rapid, low-dose images that the computer combines into precise 3D views. Most CT exams take under two minutes, though you may spend about 10–15 minutes in the imaging suite for preparation and positioning.

For some CT scans, an oral or intravenous contrast medium or dye will be administered to highlight certain tissues for closer examination. Contrast-enhanced studies are routine and generally well tolerated. As with any medication, allergic reactions are possible but rare, and our clinical teams are fully trained to manage them safely.

I took my paperwork in filled in before my appointment. There was no wait with a room full of people with their appointments. I was treated extremely well for my lung CT. This is a good place to have CT’s done with the equipment used.

I went in for an Ultrasound to see if I had a blood clot in my leg. By the time I got the results it was 5:00 PM. They could not get a hold of my Dr. and advised me to go to the ER. While in ER they did a CT scan and found I had a Pulmonary Embolism in my lungs. They told me I had a saddle clot (the worst kind) and that I am lucky my lung didn’t collapse and I didn’t have a stroke or a heart attack! I truly believe your techs saved my life by advising me to go to the ER! Thank you!

The Greenfield office in Gilbert was very nice. The appointments were scheduled back to back over the phone by rep. The check-in was easy because I finished it at home online before I went in. Front desk staff were smiling and friendly. The techs were amazing and very professional. Had mammogram, lung CT and Dexa bone density tests all done in less than 60 minutes. Great job SimonMed!

I arrived at SimonMed on time for my appointment. Since this was a follow up scan (for lung cancer), and no changes had occurred to my status, I was swiftly processed. I received my scan and was out of the office in about twenty minutes. I highly recommend SimonMed for any imaging that you may require!

Yes. A provider’s order is required for most CT exams to ensure the right type of scan is performed and your insurance can cover it. If you don’t have an order, our team can help coordinate with your doctor’s office.

Yes. CT scans are quick, non-invasive, and use low levels of X-ray radiation. Modern technology has greatly reduced radiation exposure while improving image quality.

Some CT scans use a contrast dye to highlight specific organs or blood vessels. Your doctor will let you know if contrast is needed, and our team will ensure you’re comfortable and well-informed before the scan.

Your images are reviewed promptly by a board-certified radiologist. Results are typically sent to your doctor within a few days, and often sooner for urgent cases.
