Dr. John Simon

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Simon has been practicing radiology for over 30 years with special expertise in women’s imaging, body imaging, and interventional. Dr. Simon is a board certified Radiologist with an additional Certificate of Added Qualification in Interventional Radiology. He graduated in three years at the age of 20 from Harvard with Phi Beta Kappa and Summa Cum Laude honors. Dr. Simon completed Medical School at the University of Chicago and accelerated radiology training and fellowship training at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Sean Raj

Dr. Sean Raj

Chief Medical Officer & Chief Innovation Officer

Dr. Sean Raj serves as SimonMed’s Chief Medical Officer and Chief Innovation Officer. In this dual role, Dr. Raj leads evaluation, acquisition, integration and implementation of new clinical technologies into SimonMed’s infrastructure and practice with an emphasis on enhancing quality and elevating clinical outcomes, while overseeing the medical direction of the practice. Dr. Raj also directs patient-centered research initiatives focused on incorporation of artificial intelligence technologies into clinical practice. Dr. Raj earned his bachelor’s degree and medical degree from New York University. He then completed his residency in Radiology from Baylor College of Medicine and received his Breast Imaging fellowship training at Harvard Medical School’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. After board certification, Dr. Raj was an Associate Professor of Radiology and partner in a hybrid academic-private practice in Texas where he developed an award-winning high risk breast cancer screening and research program. With over 30 publications in peer-reviewed media and over 50 national presentations and lectures, Dr. Raj is nationally recognized as a thought leader in Radiology.

Dr. Angela Fried

Director of Women’s Imaging

Dr. Fried has practiced with SimonMed Imaging since 2012. In 2018, she accepted the position of Director of Breast Imaging for the entire company, overseeing breast imaging physicians at centers in 5 states.

She is proficient in all aspects of breast imaging, including biopsy procedures, but is most interested in MRI imaging of the breast. Dr. Fried is also experienced in body imaging and procedures. In her spare time, she follows her LSU Tigers and New Orleans Saints football teams, travels extensively and spends time with her husband and two Basset hounds.

Dr. Christopher Maroules

Director of Cardiac Imaging

Dr. Maroules is certified in Diagnostic Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. Serving as the Director of Cardiac Imaging, he holds advanced Level 3 certifications in Advanced Cardiac Imaging including Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Fellow of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (FSCCT).  Dr. Maroules is passionate about improving access to high quality cardiovascular care for all patients. His career is dedicated to providing cost-effective, precision cardiovascular care equitably throughout the U.S. using digital tools and a team of expert physicians and engineers.

Dr. John Uglietta

Dr. John Uglietta

Emeritus Director of Neuroradiology

Dr. Uglietta attended Brandeis University and is a graduate of Georgetown University Medical School. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine, Radiology Residency and Neuroradiology Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center serving as Chief Resident during his fourth year of Residency.

He has served many leadership roles in his career including Chairman of Radiology, Vice Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center and he was elected the first Chairman of Radiology and first Chief of Staff at Banner Estrella Medical Center. He was formerly a Managing Partner in Valley Radiologists and Southwest Diagnostic Imaging (SDI) before joining Dr. Simon as one of the original partners of SimonMed Imaging and served as Director of Neuroradiology at SimonMed for 16 years. He has been named “Top Doc” in Phoenix Magazine multiple times and has been named one of the Best Doctors in America since 2001.

He is Board Certified in Diagnostic Radiology, subspecialty Board Certified in Neuroradiology (CAQ) and is a Senior Member of ASNR. He is a leader in the early adoption and advancement of Ultra High Field Strength 3T MRI Neuroimaging in the Outpatient setting and is one of the most experienced Neuroradiologists in 3T MRI Imaging in the country. He is a recognized local authority on Spinal Imaging and Interventions and has special interest in 3T Neurovascular Imaging of aneurysms and AVM’s, MS and Neurodegenerative Disorders.

Dr. Pamela Lund

Director of MSK Imaging

Dr. Pamela Lund graduated from the University of Illinois, Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine. She followed that with her residency in internal medicine at the Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital, University of Illinois, then on to the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center, University of Chicago for her residency in Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Lund served as Chief Resident while at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Lund has over 30 years of practical experience and expertise in the diagnostic imaging field. She serves as the Orthopedic Imaging Consultant to several professional sports teams, like the Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Coyotes, Arizona Diamondbacks and Rattlers as well as several MLB spring training baseball teams and the NFL combine. She also participates in local and national Orthopedic academic research projects. Dr. Lund has published numerous articles, book chapters, reviews and presentations. She also has been recognized for her outstanding service with awards like being named a “TOP DOC” multiple times in the annual Phoenix Magazine “TOP DOC” edition.

Dr. Scott D. Flamm

Chief Medical Information Officer

Dr. Scott D. Flamm is an internationally recognized leader in cardiac, and cardiovascular imaging. Dr. Flamm completed fellowship training in Cardiovascular Imaging and MRI at the University of California San Francisco. Subsequently, he completed an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Prior to joining SimonMed, Dr. Flamm held numerous leadership roles – most recently at Cleveland Clinic, home to the world’s top-ranked heart program, where he served as Head of Cardiovascular Imaging for 17 years.

Dr. Flamm is a Fellow of the American College of Radiology, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Heart Association, and is a Master Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He is a Past President of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance and was a Board Member of the North American Society of Cardiac Imaging. Dr. Flamm has authored or co-authored over 200 publications and has served on Editorial Boards for numerous scientific journals.

Dr. Anjaly Curley

Dr. Anjaly Curley

Director of Oncologic

Dr. Anjaly Belur Curley is a board certified radiologist by the American Board of Radiology and specializes in Oncologic Imaging. She was born and raised in New Jersey. She matriculated into a competitive combined BS/MD Medical Scholars program, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Monmouth University and subsequently obtained her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Curley was always fascinated with the field of radiology, its integral role in diagnosis, and the continuous advances in the field. She therefore completed a Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University College of Medicine, where she was also elected to serve as Chief Resident. Her strong interest in cancer and molecular imaging led her to complete a PET/CT Imaging Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, which was home to the first PET/CT scanner in clinical practice, and where she was able to train among experts in the field.

Dr. Curley is the Director of Oncologic Imaging/Nuclear Medicine at SimonMed Imaging. She enjoys research, and has published and presented in multiple journals and at multiple national meetings, including Cancer, RSNA & ARRS. She has also been recognized as a Top Doctor by Phoenix Magazine. In her spare time, Dr. Curley enjoys spending time with her husband Brendan who is a local Oncologist/Hematologist, her two daughters, and her English bulldog Princess Danger, who also volunteers as a Therapy Dog.

Dr. David Lefkowitz

Dr. David Lefkowitz

Director of MRI

Dr. Lefkowitz received training in radiology and neuroradiology at the University of Miami, and then moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he served in the United States Air Force. After completing military service, he took a position at Creighton University where he taught neuroradiology, served as program director in radiology, and earned the rank of Associate Professor over a 10 year period. Dr. Lefkowitz then joined the radiology faculty at the University of Maryland where he served as Medical Director of MRI, taught neuroradiology to residents and fellows, and participated in neuroradiology research, also over a 10 year period. He joined SimonMed in 2008, working initially in Scottsdale, Arizona and currently in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Lefkowitz was recently named Medical Director of MRI for SimonMed Imaging.

He chose radiology and neuroradiology as a career because of his interest in advanced imaging technology as it applies to medical care. Having a background in physics and engineering from his undergraduate training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, his academic pursuits were a natural progression, and he primarily focused on translational research, converting complex MRI techniques into practical, real-world clinical applications. Over the course of Dr. Lefkowitz’s career, topics of interest included stroke imaging, brain tumor imaging, multi-modality image co-registration, spectroscopic imaging, fiber tractography, resting state functional connectivity, and quantitive image analysis.

Dr. Joshua Friedlander

Dr. Joshua Friedlander

Director of Body Imaging

Joshua Friedlander, M.D., was born and raised in Agoura Hills, CA. He graduated with honors from the University of California, Davis with a degree in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior. After completing medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, he began his radiology residency at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, Michigan. There, he was elected and served as Chief resident and was honored with the distinction of “Resident of the Year” during his graduation ceremony.

Dr. Friedlander then completed his fellowship/subspecialty training in abdominal imaging and ultrasound at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Friedlander’s professional interests and areas of expertise include advanced body imaging (MRI, CT and ultrasound), prostate MRI, PET/CT and oncologic imaging.
